The families and members of NAMI IOWA are here to help! We offer understanding to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness.

Current treatments for depression, including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and medication, are not effective for many people. In this study, we investigate the effects of a novel intervention approach for depression, examining how pre-therapy preparatory activities enhance the effects of each CBT session.

CBT typically includes these steps: Identify troubling situations or conditions in your life. Become aware of your thoughts, emotions and beliefs about these problems. Identify negative or inaccurate thinking. Reshape negative or inaccurate thinking.
